Mini Funnel Cakes
My friend Laura opened this adorable studio to host craft workshops. These aren’t your run of the mill Joann’s fabrics classes, kids. These are full fledged super hip workshops; macrame, wood working, dream catchers, chalk art, floral arranging.
Guiness Chocolate Cake
I’ve been making this cake for years. It’s rich and moist and the frosting is so stinkin’ good. With St. Patty’s day happening tomorrow, I thought it was a great time to share this cake with you!
Mixologist Molly: Birthday Cake Martini
First, it is very important to use store bought vanilla frosting, it really make the CAKEy-ness (is that even a word??) of this drink. I tried chocolate syrup and cream cheese frosting and neither really did it for me. The sugary store bought vanilla frosting really brought it all together. We also tried serving these straight up in a martini glass…still wasn’t quite right…so we blended them and served them in the martini glass (which maybe makes it not a martini, but the glasses look cool). Now we have it…soooooo YUMMMY!!!
Mommy Bistro Note: The hubby is turning THIRTY-FOUR this week. I cannot believe it. I’ve known this amazing man for eleven years. And he would hate this martini. We actually made these in honor of Mixologist Molly’s birthday in February but it wasn’t perfected until now. It’s super duper delicious!

Ingredients:
1 ounce amaretto
1 1/2 ounces Cake Vodka
1 1/2 ounces creme de cacao
1/2 ounce Godiva white chocolate liqueur (pricey, but soooo worth it!)
1 ounce heavy cream (try with fat-free half and half too)
rainbow sprinkles (nonpareils, the teeny round ones)
Frosting (vanilla, not homemade)
Directions:
First just put the rim of the glass right in the top of the frosting container. Having placed the round sprinkles on a plate, roll the frosted rim in the sprinkles.
Now make the yummy drink: Add the amaretto, cake vodka, creme de cacao, Godiva liqueur, heavy cream and ice to a blender.
I usually at least double this recipe. But just put all ingredients in the blender with a little bit of ice (not to make a slushy margarita, but just enough to chill it). Blend until ice is broken, but not smooth. Poor in prepared glasses and serve 🙂
Note: if you cannot find Cake vodka, whipped cream or vanilla will work.
Blissful Chocolate Cake
I want to cry with chocolate covered tears because of this cake. This is one of those recipes that you file under top secret in your recipe drawer. Because if you ever want to make dinner party guests, friends, family or a man swoon – this would surely do the trick. In honor of V-Day tomorrow, I thought the ladies (and gents too!) would need this to add to their arsenal.
Pumpkin Spice Cake
I love this cake. It’s the same pumpkin bread recipe that you can find in my Pumpkin Bread Pudding recipe. I love the cozy autumn feeling this cake gives me. Especially when you add in the honey frosting on top. Actually, now that I’m sitting here writing about this, and it’s such a gloomy yucky rainy day, I think I’ll whip this up. I’m having some friends over for a Stella & Dot jewelry party this afternoon and I only have a few days left before I have to put the pumpkin away and break out the peppermint and Christmas music. Have I mentioned how crazy obsessed my hubby is with Christmas music? He has 198 Christmas songs in our itunes library. That 8.2 hours of Christmas music. God help me for the next month.
Flourless Nutella Cake
Oh Nutella, how I love thee…. Growing up we would make these amazing crepes by spreading Nutella on them, rolling them up and chowing them down (don’t worry, the French crepe recipe is coming soon). Recently, my mom and Pixie were out running errands together before the three of us went for pedicures. Don’t judge! It was for my mom’s birthday and Pixie is a GIRLY. GIRL! So, my mom calls me and says, “We got too busy and never got her any lunch. She’s been eating her snacks but will you bring her a sandwich too?” And I’m thinking to myself, “well it is kind of a special occasion so I will make her a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich.” I’ve never seen a kid eat a sandwich so fast. She was covered in Nutella and had this goofy cross eyed look on her face like, “where have you been all of my life Nutella!?!?!? I’m only 3 1/2 but where have you been!?!?!” Anyways, back to this cake. This is my husband’s absolute favorite cake. Well, this one and my Guiness Chocolate Cake. Each year for his birthday I can almost guarantee he will ask for this cake. And then his eyes inevitably end up crossing… and I see where Pixie gets it from.
Hubby’s note: There are two things that my wife does that makes my eyes cross. This is the “G” rated one. And this cake is so good, it may possibly be a substitute for the other one. I like it with Port. Or Tobin James’ Late Harvest Zinfandel. This cake actually melts in your mouth. I don’t mean that as a cliche. It physically melts. No chewing required. Eating this cake is like floating on a warm hazelnut cloud. Um…that made much more sense in my head. And for the record, i’m working on butching up the girly girl.
