Double Pork Roast
Now that Pixie and Buggies are home for summer, I’ve enlisted their help in running our home. I looked into lots of different chore ideas on Pinterest until I came up with an idea that worked for us. It’s evolved since its inception and I will post the whole kit and caboodle (Ooooooo! Caboodles!!! Remember those from the 80’s?!) in my next post.
Tuscan White Bean Soup with Crispy Bacon and Fried Sage
“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.”
Gandhi was one bad ass dude.
Bacon Crisps
It’s official. Thanksgiving is over. It is usually my favorite holiday. I love having my house full of people, making lots of delicious food and keeping busy in the kitchen. I don’t know if it is because school has been so busy with the kids or I was having some kitchen burn out but this year I was the scrooge of Turkey Day. I think we will be taking a little break next year. This was my NINTH year hosting…and I deserve a break! See? I’m STILL grumpy!
Fettuccine a la Pumpkin
Have I mentioned that Pixie has almost finished her second season of soccer? Have I mentioned how I am counting down the damn minutes until the last game this Saturday at 1:00 PM? Seriously, don’t judge me if at the final whistle
Brussels and Bacon
About a year ago we visited some great friends down in Encinitas. They are total foodies so I LOVE eating with them. One night they spoiled us rotten and made these amazing New York Steaks with clarified butter, a delicious fennel salad and brussels with bacon.
Fancy Pants Mac N Cheese
Pixie’s school is the greatest school on the planet. Seriously, your kid’s school cannot hold a candle to this place. It’s the school you dream about, the school you see in books and think “That does not exist.” But it does. I played the $590 million PowerBall game with the secret hope we would win and next year she could stay at this uber expensive school and not go public. The teachers are the sweetest, most caring downright kick ass teachers ever. The learning programs the school has instilled has made Pixie grow by leaps and bounds.
Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos Stuffed with Gorgonzola Cheese
When we go camping, I’d like to be able to say I tone down my cooking and it’s all hamburgers and hot dogs but I just can’t do it. Food just tastes better when you’re camping. Maybe it’s the layer of dirt on your plate or the good company or the great outdoors. Whatever it is, it inspires me.
Eggs Benedict
I love savory breakfasts. Whenever we go out to eat for breakfast – there is no chance on the planet that I’m ordering a big ol’ plate of pancakes. It is guaranteed that I will order Eggs Benedict every time. The crunchy english muffin, poached egg, smoked ham, the delicious hollandaise and hash browns (well done)…need I go on?
Best Breakfast Burrito
Okay, so here is the deal people. It’s W-Day. Yes. Yes, W-Day is Sean and Annie’s wedding day. For which I am making 300 French Macarons for. And coordinating the rehearsal dinner for. And hosting a day after the big day BBQ for. So I’ve lost all sense of reality peeps. I feel like I’m living in the twilight zone at this point. This will be my only post this week. I’m SO SORRY! I feel like I’m letting you down. I promise to make up for it next week but right now, it’s 11:26 and I think my bedtime tonight will be closer to 2 or 3 AM time. Wish me luck and I promise to post tons of pics of the big day!
In the meantime, make this burrito for breakfast. It’s delish and if you post on Facebook that you are making it, I might show up at your house looking frazzled with a bottle of champagne and invite myself in for a burrito.
This burrito is a take on my other breakfast indulgence, Morning Glory. The first time I made this was at the Kern River about a month ago and it was quite the hit.
Hubby’s Note: I’m convinced that I could make anything into a burritto and enjoy it. I could wrap a pickle, a carrot, and maybe Thomas the Train into a tortilla, throw some Frank’s Red Hot sauce and guacamole on it and i’d be a happy man. All that being said, I’d much rather have this magical concoction of yumminess in my breakfast burritto than the aforementioned ingredients. It’ll be better on the back end this way too.
Dederich Family Spaghetti Carbonara
In the kitchen, my husband is amazing at making exactly two things: Sicilian Chicken Marsala and Spaghetti Carbonara. As I talked about in our marsala recipe, Ryan’s grandparents were stationed in Sicily for a few years. Their house was situated over this fabulous little Italian restaurant and while Jerry was out being a Master Chief Signalman, Doris made friends with her landlady.
